Balayage in Meridian, Idaho

Balayage is a freehand painting technique: color is swept onto the surface of the hair in soft, natural placements rather than saturated in foils. The result is a sun-kissed blonde with depth at the root and brightness through the ends, and because there is no hard line, it grows out beautifully.

How balayage works

Each section is painted by hand, heavier toward the ends and lighter toward the root, following the way the sun would naturally lighten your hair. We tailor the placement to your haircut and how you wear it so the brightest pieces fall where they frame your face.

Balayage vs. foils

Foils lift hair lighter and brighter because the heat and saturation are higher; balayage gives a softer, more diffused result. For clients who want very bright blonde with a soft grow-out we often combine the two, a technique called foilayage. Your consultation decides which gets you to your goal with the healthiest hair.

Your appointment

A full balayage takes about three to four hours including toner and a styled finish. Arrive with clean, dry hair and bring a photo or two of what you love. We will talk through what is realistic for your starting color and your hair's health.

Balayage questions

How long does balayage last?

Because it has no hard regrowth line, balayage can go three to four months between sessions. A toner or gloss every six to eight weeks keeps the blonde from going brassy.

Does balayage damage your hair?

Any lightening affects the hair, but balayage lightens less of it than a full foil and leaves the root untouched, so it is one of the gentler ways to go blonde. We use bond-building products and never push hair further than it can handle in one visit.

Can I get balayage on short hair?

Yes. On a bob or lob the placement is adjusted so the dimension shows through the shorter lengths and around the face.
